history of psychiatry (part 3)

Franz Anton Mesmer (1734-1815)

This is the one who I was searching for...I always asks myself why the word MAGNETISM comes when we want to talk about hypnosis...the is the man who made the combination...in 1779 he wrote one of his famous works: memoire sur la decouverte du magnetism animal....where he showed that when a mental therapist used the so called ANIMAL MAGNETISM, it could cure cases of psychiatric illness; this led to the discovery of hypnosis.

look at him in these pictures believing that that barrel and the silks going out of it will have some electromagnetic effects on the psyche... and also he believed that moving his hands in that special way will hypnotize the patient...most of his patients were women...

Dear Dr. Al Bedri,
My mother-inlaw keeps asking me if i have tried hypnosis, as if that would solve all my problems...yeah, right. She also says she would like to see me gain about 10 pounds (don't feel like doing the math to translate to kilos).......so you can imagine how much faith i put in her ideas...but mostly we get along.

The real reason i have fely sick the past couple of days is that i have eaten toooo much...yuck, i am a blob...mil might get her wish, yes? sorry to write this in the middle of Ramadan.

Mister Ghost, you are too funny, LOL!!!!

Dear Dr. Al Bedri,
What a kind thing to say to me...you make me feel wanted...and i want to thank you, for a terrific blog and I am sorry to write about such dumb things when there are real, true problems in the world, ie, y o u r world...but you did say, write about whatever comes to mind...i guess my mind needs more serious thought..a bit of good news...my husband finally went to the doctor and is trying a different antidepressant (Wellbutrin-it really helped me, but i cannot take it now, due to risk of seizures, so i take another med and yes, you can publish this on the blog!). i hope the med helps him, he also had a foot problem that needs treatment...how is this for S of C...???
i wish you blessings, tracy
