Liberty on the Walls

Baghdad was centered around the river Tigris. Tigris was the line around which baghdadian dreams and stories were centered. Baghdadian thinking was growing in circles gathering around the river. Now Baghdad is filled with walls. Walls that run in long lines. Baghdadian thinking is now liniar, in parallel to walls....

An artisit had drawn the Liberty Monument Symbols on one of the walls... (see the picture above), so that he make us able to imagine liberty inspite of walls...

When I went to visit Baghdad the year before the first desert storm, I don't recall any walls.
My niece who was just a little girl at the time of my visit has just been approved as a refugee along wither her husband and 2 children (both under 2). My husband and I will be sponsoring them when they arrive in Nevada within the month. I am excited and also a bit nervous. I am hoping they adjust well as I am sure this is going to be difficult for them. They have been living in Syria the last 2 years near her parents. She doesn't speak good English and has never been very far from her parents. I think she is brave to make the decision to move forward and see what the world has to offer. I hope that I can help them not only get on their feet, but mentally as well. Blessings to you on your continuing journey forward and wish you real liberty in spite of the walls.

Beautiful. The figure at the far right looks like he's breaking down a barrier.

May the day come soon when these walls will be torn down...

thank you, Sami. Hope all is well.

Hi Sami....

I like the caption of the topic so much. It says so much about the liberty. The liberty in its true sense which does not exist in Baghdad. Hence people have tried to express themselves on the walls.

your friend komal from india.
